Term 1, Week 2 2022
Dear Community Members,
A very warm welcome to the 2022 School Year.
We have had a great start and I am sure you will agree that whether the students are learning from home or here at school they have had a very successful beginning. Thankyou for your amazing support in ensuring that we had the best start that we have ever had.
I would like to welcome our new students and their families who begin their learning journey with us this year. It was great to see our 17 new Reception students arrive last Wednesday morning. A special welcome to Roman, Parker, Angus, Henry, Sasha, Aliza, Carter, Spencer, William, Lennox, Cooper, Alfie, Jett, Franklin, Peggy-Sue, Conner and Mason. We hope that you have rich and meaningful learning experiences as you join our Dominican Community.
I would also like to welcome Annabelle and Zahlia in Year 2 and Scarlett in Year 3. It is great to have you here!
Our $2.15 million Building project Stage 1 is well underway and is progressing extremely well. Please refer to our Facebook page for regular updates and photos. The building is scheduled to be finished in July where we will have 5 new Learning Spaces to move into and a new outdoor learning area to enjoy. Exciting times ahead for our school. If you would like to know more about our building project please come and see me.
I would like to acknowledge the work and commitment of all staff over these last two weeks as we have navigated our way through remote learning. They have certainly done an amazing job to ensure that every student receives a quality learning program. Teachers, ESO’s Administration Staff and the Leadership team have all shown great agility and flexibility and I am so thankful for their efforts.
I can assure the community that we have high quality COVID safe measures and processes in place for students and staff. Please don’t hesitate to speak with me if you require further information.
This year our school theme is ‘Living VERITAS with HEARTS of HOPE’. May 2022 be a hope filled year with many things to achieve and celebrate as a learning community so that we remain united in faith, with hope in our hearts as we grow in love.
I look forward to seeing all students return to school next week as we resume face to face learning.
Go well and have a great week.
Kind regards
Phil

Welcome back to 2022 at Dominican. A special welcome to our new students and families.
LIVING VERITAS WITH HEARTS OF HOPE
Each year at Dominican School, we embrace a theme which guides us in our mission to live our motto of Veritas through our Pillars of Prayer, Study, Community and Ministry. In 2022 we celebrate the theme, Living Veritas with Hearts of Hope.
This year, we draw inspiration from Matthew’s Gospel to be people of HOPE and shine Christ’s light of LOVE.
You are the light of the world - like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. (Mt 5:14-16)
OUR DOMINICAN CALLING, To Live With HOPE & Shine Christ’s LOVE
In the Scripture, Jesus tells the disciples, You are the light of the world… Let your light shine before others. This is our mission – to live with HOPE and SHINE Christ’s love. Pope Francis says that ‘living the Truth revealed in Christ means opening our hearts to God, and allowing God to dwell in us.’ He calls us to be Christ’s light of HOPE in these times of trouble, when everything seems fragile and uncertain: ‘Give hope to others – be kind, show interest, give the gift of a smile, speak a word of encouragement, listen.’ (Fratelli Tutti) Each of us is called to follow Jesus and BE THE LIGHT.
The hope we have in our hearts, opens us to the love of God and guides us to be the best people we can be by sharing that love. We strive to live that hope every day at Dominican.

We welcome our new Reception students to the 2022 school year. We are looking forward to a great year of learning together.
Families are kindly asked to contact the school office by 9.30am if your child will be absent or late. Please leave the students name, class and the reason for the student’s absence. You can do this by:
- Phoning 8114 3600 (select option 1 and leave a message)
- Emailing absent@dominican.catholic.edu.au
Please don’t email teachers directly or use Seasaw for absentees as quite often these are not checked by teachers at the beginning of the school day. If an absence is unexplained an automatic SMS message will be sent to parents requesting confirmation of an absence. If a student arrives at school after the 8.50am bell they must sign in at the Front Office. If a student leaves the school before 3.05pm dismissal time they must be signed out in the Front Office by an adult. Communication with the classroom teacher is required when a student needs to leave before dismissal time, is going on a family holiday or any other pre-arranged absence.
It is important that the school has up to date contact information for parents and families. If you have changed your address, home, work, mobile telephone numbers, or email address or if your family circumstances have changed, please advise the School Office on 8114 3600 or email Wendy Benson at wbenson@dominican.catholic.edu.au
It is important that we have updated details in the case of emergency situations. Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.
