Volunteers Week

This week we recognise, celebrate and thank volunteers for the vital role they play in our lives and especially here in our Dominican community.

Never has this been more evident than after a year where Australia has dealt with drought, devastating bushfires, floods and then a global pandemic. Amidst the pandemic, while many of us stayed home, volunteers continued to deliver essential services, organise food packages and offer care, comfort and more to support the well-being of Australians...

We give thanks for Fr Roderick who celebrates his birthday tomorrow. He is currently travelling with his brother on The Ghan to Darwin and we wish him well. As a school community, we are blessed to have Fr Roderick as our leader of faith who guides us to live with God’s love. Fr Roderick celebrates Mass with us and helps us to learn more about God, Jesus and our Church. We extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Fr Roderick for his ministry to our school community as our Parish Priest.

For families of children in the Family Faith Formation Program, please note that our next Family Workshop will occur this Saturday May 22 from 1.30 – 3.30pm at the Veritas Centre, Our Lady of the Visitation School, Taperoo. Our Family Gathering will have a focus on Confirmation and the Holy Spirit: Life in the Spirit – The Sacrament of Confirmation.

We pray for Kelsey, Grace, William, Jacob and Izla, and all those children in our parish who are preparing to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. May they receive the fullness of God’s Spirit.

This term we have welcomed five Year 4/5 students to serve as sacristans for our Friday Masses. These students have engaged in training to prepare for their ministry, and helped prepare the Church for their very first Mass on Friday. We thank Eric, Maverick, Dlila, Jessica and Siahn for their faith-filled commit-ment to serving our school and parish communities through these important roles.

Families are kindly asked to contact the school office by 9.30am if your child will be absent or late. Please leave the students name, class and the reason for the student’s absence.

Please don’t email teachers directly or use Dojo for absentees as quite often these are not checked by teachers at the beginning of the school day. If an absence is unexplained an automatic SMS message will be sent to parents requesting confirmation of an absence.

If a student arrives at school after the 8.50am bell they must sign in at the Front Office.

If a student leaves the school before 3.05pm dismissal time they must be signed out in the Front Office by an adult.

Communication with the classroom teacher is required when a student needs to leave before dismissal time, is going on a family holiday or any other pre-arranged absence.

Every day at Dominican is Nude Food Day.

Nude Food is food without excess packaging. This reduces the amount of 'stuff' that needs to go in bins to be sent to landfill.

Durable, reusable containers are a great way to bring food to school. They can last from pre-school through to high school and beyond, providing long term cost savings and

Any amount of time is always greatly appreciated. All volunteers must have a current Police Clearance.
