Term 2, Week 8 2022
Dear Community Members
Welcome to Week 8!
Our Teachers are currently working hard on finalising student reports that will be sent home on Friday 1 July. This has been a difficult semester at school with so many students away at different times but teachers are doing their best to produce a report based on what has been achieved by each student. As we enter a new Term in Term 3 there will be opportunities to discuss your child’s progress if you require further clarification.
Last week we welcomed 9 new students to Dominican School as part of our Reception Mid-Year intake who will begin their learning journey with us next term. Alison, Nick and myself had the pleasure to meet these students along with their families to ensure that they have the best start they can. It is always a privilege to induct our new families and to hear about their hopes that they have for their children. Over the next 2 weeks our Transition Program continues and we welcome Ms Shenae Dougan to our community as the new Reception teacher for this new class. We welcome our new students and their families to our school community.
Our building program continues to get closer to the finish line each day! Some spaces will be ready by the end of the term and final handover is set for the 26 August- if not earlier. I look forward to sharing these new spaces with our students and families as soon as possible. It is going to be an amazing contemporary learning space for all of us to enjoy.
At Dominican School we are committed to the safety of our students, staff and community. To become a volunteer, please ensure the following forms are completed and returned to the school office.
- Read Induction Pack for Volunteers
- Complete a Volunteer Application Form
- Provide a copy of a current Responding to Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education and Care (RHAN-EC) certificate
- Complete a current Catholic Archdiocese Police Clearance
- Provide a copy of COVID-19 Vaccination or exemption Certificate.
All required forms can be found on our website through the following link: https://www.dominican.catholic.edu.au/community/parent-involvement
We absolutely value parent participation at Dominican School and I would like to thank those Parents and Grandparents who have already put their hand up to be a volunteer. It is great to have you!
Have a great fortnight and stay warm!

Last week our Justice Leaders launched our school Can Drive to support the Vinnies Winter Appeal. They visited classes to raise awareness of homelessness and the work of St Vincent de Paul to provide outreach to those in need. All students are asked to bring along a tin of food to donate to this worthy cause. We will be collecting donations until Friday July 8, the last day of term. These will then be forwarded on to our local Vinnies Conference to give to families in our local community doing it tough this winter.
Our Dominican community is always very generous to giving to those in need and we thank you in advance for your support.
The 10th World Meeting of Families will be held in Rome this week from 22 - 26 June 2022. The theme for this gathering is Family Love: Vocation and Way to Holiness. This theme honours the gift of family and the profound meaning of family love in daily life. In celebration of this global event, Catholic Education South Australia has gifted each family with a prayer booklet, Say A Little Prayer. This booklet along with an Ideas Resource has been circulated to all families as a way to share in prayer together and celebrate this special event
As a school community, we pray for the following students in our Sacramental Program:
This Sunday June 26, Macy and Jenna will be welcomed into the Catholic faith through the Sacrament of Baptism.
Elijah, Emma, Jaeda, Jenny, Jessica, Marley, Sean and William will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation next Wednesday June 29, where they will confirm the promises made by their parents and godparents when they were baptised. They will then celebrate the Sacrament of First Holy Communion at our parish masses the following weekend where they will receive the Eucharist for the first time.
We ask God’s blessings for these children.

Austin's Butterfly Illustrations
Our 3/4’s have been creating illustrations of an animal or insect in Visual Arts. We created a first draft, then watched Austin’s Butterfly to learn how to give feedback to each other and level up our drawings. After getting feedback and using a photo of our animal or insect, we created our second draft. Then we shared more feedback and created a third draft. Once we have finished our illustrations we will use these to create animations!
Please look through the gallery and scan the QR codes to see our drawing progress.

3/4S CLASS TEACHER
Families are kindly asked to contact the school office by 9.30am if your child will be absent or late. Please leave the students name, class and the reason for the student’s absence.
You can do this by:
- Phoning 8114 3636 (select option 1 and leave a message)
- Emailing absent@dominican.catholic.edu.au
Please don’t email teachers directly or use Dojo for absentees as quite often these are not checked by teachers at the beginning of the school day. If an absence is unexplained an automatic SMS message will be sent to parents requesting confirmation of an absence.
If a student arrives at school after the 8.50am bell they must sign in at the Front Office.
If a student leaves the school before 3.05pm dismissal time they must be signed out in the Front Office by an adult.
Communication with the classroom teacher is required when a student needs to leave before dismissal time, is going on a family holiday or any other pre-arranged absence.
Important Dates
Term 2 concludes at 3.05pm
Term 3 commences 8.55am
