Term 3, Week 6 2022
Dear Community Members
Welcome to Week 6!
Well the day has finally arrived as we move into our new facility tomorrow in readiness for our students in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 on Monday. These new learning spaces are contemporary and state of the art and I am sure you will agree that they look amazing! Our Pupil Free Day tomorrow will involve all staff preparing these new learning spaces. It will be an absolute team effort and I would like to thank all staff in advance for their commitment and hard work that will take place tomorrow.
Next Monday morning will be an exciting time for our community and especially for our young people. We will still gather on the court area on Monday morning and the teachers will take the students to their new rooms via the new entrance that will be made available to us. Please feel welcome to come in and have a look throughout the week. I would love to show you through.
We are currently in the process of naming the new learning spaces, we have consulted students and staff and I would welcome any ideas from parents. Please contact me directly.
This morning we celebrated Father’s Day with a special breakfast. Many thanks to the Parents and Friends who prepared this breakfast for our Dad’s and Grandads. It was wonderful to see so many attend. This was a great example of our Dominican Community in action. Our SRC welcomed our visitors with special messages on large posters. Thanks to the SRC for this brilliant initiative. I sincerely wish all of our dads here at Dominican a very happy Father’s Day on Sunday. I look forward to spending Sunday with my Dad who is also celebrating his 80th Birthday.
Have a great week and I look forward to next week as we begin a new era in our new learning spaces.
Kind regards,
Phil

GRATITUDE FOR FATHERS
This Sunday we celebrate FATHER’S DAY. On this day we honour and give thanks for our dads and all the special male rolemodels in our lives. We want all the dads at Dominican to know how important you are. Thank you for your constant love, care and nurture for your children. We pray to our loving God to bless, protect and strengthen you all.
Here are our new Receptions’ Reflections on what they LOVE about their Dads:
I like my daddy because he makes super-squishy noodles. Everley
I love my dad because he makes me laugh every day. Georgia
I love my daddy because he cares for me and plays games with me like hide and seek. Aoife
I love my dad because he plays cars with me. Patrick
I love my dad because he tickles me and makes me laugh. Jed
I love my dad because he’s nice to me and he got me bunny slippers. Amelia
I like my daddy because he always takes me to the skate park. Zac
I love my daddy because he gives me BIG cuddles. Izy
I love my dad because he takes me everywhere – for icecream, to Fun World and to my grandma’s and grandpa’s house. Mack
CELEBRATING OUR FAITH
We are pleased to be able to once again share in PRAYER & LITURGY as a whole school community. These celebrations provide us with the opportunity to gather in faith, hope and love, and we look forward to sharing in these special prayer times together.
This term, we will share in COMMUNITY PRAYER to commence our Assemblies at 9.00am in the Multi-Function Centre in:
Week 7 Friday September 9 – led by RN
Week 8 Friday September 16 – led by 1/2AB
Week 9 Friday September 23 – led by 3/4S
Week 10 Friday September 30 – led by 5/6OK
All families are warmly invited to attend.
CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL
A little giving goes a long way… Charity is at the heart of living Catholic and each September we celebrate Catholic Charities month. Catholic Charities is our South Australian organisation that provides support to agencies making a difference to the lives of the vulnerable and disadvantaged in our community, including Our Lady of La Vang and St Patrick’s Special Schools, Aboriginal Catholic Ministry, Centacare Catholic Family Services, and the Hutt St Centre. In the coming weeks, our Justice Leaders will be raising awareness of Catholic Charities with all classes, and holding a whole school event to fundraise for the appeal.
Sacrament Preparation for Catholic Children
The Lefevre Catholic Community, in conjunction with the local schools, is calling for enrolments in the 2022/23 Sacrament Preparation Programme. The programme for children over 8 years of age will commence in October. For more information please contact Sr Marie Egan on 0409 078 683 or email familyfaith@catholicparishes.com.au

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL RELIGIOUS IDENTITY & MISSION
In 3/4L this term we have had a ball in Maths pretending to be pirates and finding treasure! Each student created their own individual treasure map based on a creative island idea. The task was to produce a set of instructions using knowledge of coordinates and a compass for a younger student to navigate.
We then extended our learning to incorporate measuring distance and calculating Area and Perimeter of regular and irregular shapes. This learning was so enjoyable we decided to take it outside and explore further.
Enjoy the costumes and pageantry of this year's Book Week at Dominican School. We were 'Dreaming with eyes open...'
