Term 4, Week 4 2021
Dear Community Members
Welcome to Week 4! It’s hard to believe that we are approaching the half way mark of the term!
This week I have had the privilege to visit our Year 6 leaders on their School Camp at Belair. I was so impressed in the way that these young people were conducting themselves in their new environment. Their respect for each other, their inclusiveness and their determination was simply amazing. I would like to thank Matt Kosta, Lisa Osborne and Martina Kovacev for their ongoing support of these students. Thanks also to the parents who have volunteered their time to accompany these students on camp.
I am delighted to announce that Stage 1 of our Master Plan is almost ready to begin. This will be a $2,150,000 project that will include refurbishment of the Junior Primary Classrooms, 2 new Classrooms, flexible learning spaces, a new kitchen, new outdoor spaces, a new student entrance and new staff amenities.
This is an extremely significant celebration for our school community and a very exciting one as we continue to be the best school we can be. I shared this news with the School Board on Monday night and I would like to thank them for their ongoing support of this important stage in the capital development of Dominican School.
The work for this Stage 1 building will commence early in the new year. Over the coming weeks I will be sharing the plans and drawings with the community as much as I can. There will be a display of the plans in the front office commencing next week and you are more than welcome to come in and have a look.
Now that some COVID restrictions have been eased we welcome students and families to access both entrances in the mornings and afternoons.
Have a great week.
Kind regards
Phil Holmes
Principal
Our new indoor learning spaces will connect beautifully with our new outdoor learning spaces.
Prayers for John Zandona
On Thursday October 28, a private funeral was held to honour, celebrate and farewell JOHN ZANDONA, a valued staff member and dedicated educator at Dominican School for over 12 years.
This was a beautiful tribute in loving memory of John. His wife Francesca and their daughters Loretta, Jacinta, Renata and Giulietta, and granddaughter Gabriella, spoke with such warmth and affection of their deep love, pride and respect for their husband, father and nonno. On this day, in remembrance of John’s life and his gift of service to our school community, his memorial card with our lit Veritas candle, was placed on the sacred space in the Front Office.
We were blessed to have John as a member of our Dominican School community. He was a highly respected and much loved colleague, teacher and friend, who will be forever remembered by students, staff and families. We give thanks for the light John shined at Dominican and pray that the eternal light of Christ brings peace and love to John and his family.
Eternal rest grant unto him Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him.
Family Faith Formation
As a school community, we pray for the following students in the FAITH FORMATION PROGRAM who will prepare for and celebrate the Sacraments of First Reconciliation, Confirmation & First Holy Communion over the next year: Jaeda, Sean, Jessica, Marley, Emma, William, Matilda, Elijah & Jenny.
We ask God’s blessings for these children and keep them in our prayers as they journey in faith.
Alison Tanti-Clark. Assistant Principal Religious Identity & Mission
In Religion we have been learning about God's Story, the Bible.
It has stories, poems and letters. It is made up of the Old Testament and the New Testament. It tells us about God and Jesus and the things they did with love for us.
We have been enjoying listening to the stories and parables. We have also been reading bibles with our partners during Morning reading time.
One of our tasks was to design a new cover for the Holy Bible, some photos of our work and us reading the bible is shown below.
